Learn how CBD sleep products help in improving your sleep quality.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is not new in today’s medicine. Over the last two decades, it has found its use in many different fields and has become mostly known for treating anxiety, epilepsy, pain, muscle disorder (dystonia), Crohn’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. This natural ingredient has effects on the brain, although the exact effects are yet to be cleared. What we do know is that study shows that cannabidiol has prohibiting effects on brain chemicals that regulate the sensation of physical pain, our mood, and our circadian rhythm.
What Researches Show About CBD and Its Effect On Sleep
Over the last decade, the ever-increasing public interest in the benefits of CBD has inspired many researchers to study its effects and the way it can affect us. A large number of those studies have been focused on CBD’s effects on sleep.
One particular research has shown that a small dosage of CBD can increase sleep duration. A little bigger dose supposedly helped the participants fall asleep quicker.
Cortisol, more commonly known as the stress hormone, reaches its peak usually in the morning, while for people with insomnia it’s very active at night, which makes it difficult-to-impossible to fall asleep. High levels of cortisol can also increase the frequency of nighttime awakenings.
In one of the studies on the effects of CBD, researchers discovered that, when the CBD dose increases, the cortisol levels decrease. This has hinted that CBD may actually act as a sedative.
In a research conducted by ResearchTrusted Source in 2019, it was also found out that CBD can help people struggling with anxiety, which is also related to sleep deprivation. Their study involved 72 subjects of which 47 were dealing with daily anxiety and 25 poor sleep. For a month, the subjects were given a small amount of 25 mg of CBD in a form of a capsule on a daily basis. After just the first month, 79.2% of the participants reported lower anxiety levels and 66.7% reported improved sleep quality.
How Does CBD Work to Improve Sleep?
Although CBD has been under a lot of experimentation and research regarding its effects on sleep and meanwhile, the popularity of various CBD sleep products has been growing at a fast pace, researchers are still unable to say “this is exactly the reason why CBD acts this way”. Most of the studies we’ve listed above end up with something like “we still need more research on CBD before we understand how it affects our sleep in full”.
However, we have enough anecdotal evidence to support the claims that CBD sleep products can help in improving sleep. Many of our customers have time and time again shared to us that it directly tackles the source of insomnia. As more research is to be done, we will be learning more and more about how it exactly affects our sleep.
How to Use CBD for Improved Sleep
These days, CBD sleep products are available in many different forms: oils, tinctures, pills, capsules, soft chews, cookies, biscuits, gummies, and more! It depends on your own personal preferences one hundred percent.
However, it is important to know that the way you get CBD in your system varies with each form. For example, vaping CBD is the fastest way to get it in your system. There are, however, potential respiratory risks from vaping CBD, which is not the case with other forms of consuming CBD, like oils or gummies.
Another decision you have to make is the CBD dosage. The CBD dosage you need to take depends on many factors, such as your weight and the nature of your sleeping issues. If you’ve found out about CBD sleep products from a friend who’s been using them for some time, do not necessarily think it will work exactly the way it worked for them, for you to be following their exact steps. CBD’s effects vary greatly with every person.
In the aforementioned examples, the researchers conducted their research with a variety of doses anywhere between 25 mg to 1,500 mg of CBD per day. There is no research yet on CBD dosage norms. According to most researchers, however, we can conclude that the best way to find your ideal CBD dosage is to start with a low dosage and gradually increase it (if needed) until you find the ideal dosage for you.
Before you go, keep in mind that some patients do not notice any difference in the beginning. For some people, it might take up to a month to notice a slight difference in their sleep quality. Be patient and remember, it is unlikely to get results fast.
