Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a chemical compound found in cannabis plants that doesn’t make you high but does have a diverse range of alleged advantages, especially some anti-inflammatory benefits. CBD (cannabidiol) does not cause intoxication, unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

However, CBD is becoming known as a mystical cure-all for various ailments, including anxiety, depression, inflammation, and acne. Some researchers are even studying whether it could be used as an opioid addiction therapy supplement as well. But we can’t come to that conclusion without thorough research.

Although clinical trials and research haven’t always proven those findings, many Americans are already experimenting with CBD for themselves. People throughout the United States are applying CBD balm to painful joints for instant pain relief, administering CBD tinctures under weary tongues, eating CBD gummies, and smoking CBD oil-filled vaporizers in the hopes of relaxation against anxiety and depression.

In a recent survey by Harris Poll, Americans slowly and gradually elevated their knowledge of CBD. The survey performed on 2000 people showed that 85% of the people were aware of CBD, and 20% have tried it before.

Why Did People Try CBD?

Relaxation was the most common reason for using CBD, with more than half of users—55%—reporting it. Half of the respondents stated that they use CBD to relieve stress and anxiety, while the proportions of individuals who use CBD to improve their sleep and alleviate pain (including muscular discomfort, chronic pain, and joint strain) were not far behind. Also on the list were a migraine cure, menstrual problems, nausea, and sexual performance improvement.

Do we have proof?

But who’s got the proof that CBD oil works in curing these side effects? Well, let’s dig a little deep into the topic and try to find out.

If we talk about the evidence that proves the authenticity of using CBD oil against anxiety or other disorders, then there are not many sources available that prove the same. However, animal studies prove them to be pretty beneficial. But the obstacle is that we can’t trust animal trials for CBD products’ authenticity on humans.

Can CBD Oil Help You with Stress and Anxiety?

Maybe introducing CBD oil in moderate doses like 10 mg/kg may provide you with some anti-anxiety benefits. But again, we’re not pretty sure about it.

In a 2012 study, a wild boa constrictor was introduced to an “arena” with pre-treated mice, in which scientists observed the behavior of mice. Some of them had been pre-treated with CBD. However, when faced with the snake, the CBD-treated mice exhibited fewer “panic-like” responses such as freezing, urinating, or attempting an “explosive escape,” according to researchers.) Researchers determined that despite this genuinely frightening situation, the CBD-treated mice were much calmer overall.

If we talk about humans here, the research is not that wide. CBD has been shown in studies to have an anti-anxiety effect in specific circumstances. In a study, researchers gave 60 people taking placebos, clonazepam (Klonopin), or one of three doses of CBD (100 mg, 300 mg, or 900 mg) before giving them a public speaking test. Those who took the medium dose (300 mg) of CBD oil had less anxiety than those who took the lowest and highest doses of CBD, as well as those who received a placebo.)

Can CBD Oil Help You Sleep Better?

Cannabis oil is widely used all around the world (where it is legal) for treating Insomnia. But there are only a few research sources that prove the effectiveness of the same. The review of the literature on Insomnia and cannabis up to 2014 found that “preliminary research into cannabis and insomnia suggests that cannabidiol (CBD) may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of insomnia.” It also found evidence that CBD oil might help cure REM sleep behavior disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Can We Use CBD Oil Against Joint Pain?

Well, we can’t say that it’s effective, but some studies do suggest that. Many people consume CBD topically or orally, and it might help provide them with some moments of relaxation. But due to these strict regulations, reliable research sources are minimal.

In a study, researchers assessed the rats’ pain sensitivity by cutting their sciatic nerves, constricting them with fine threads, or squirting bacteria into their paws to induce inflammation. Then, for a week, they gave the rats CBD or a placebo every day and observed how quickly they withdrew their legs when exposed to heat or pressure compared to how they responded before their operations or injections.

Can CBD Oil Help You Against Nausea?

Well, they can help you only when you consume them mixed with THC. In a small study performed on humans, Nabiximols (Sativex), a mouth spray containing an approximately 1:1 ratio of THC: CBD and is used outside the United States for muscular spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis, was found to aid in the reduction of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.

But if we talk about CBD alone, we’re not sure because rats cannot vomit, which completely rules out the possibility of experimenting.

Final Thoughts

Cannabis products are widely available in the market for medicinal use, but the research is still under process, proving their authenticity. But as far as their uses are concerned, we’re pretty sure that one day we will indeed have some research sources and studies that would prove the actual benefits of this one-of-a-kind plant that nature has gifted us.
