What is the best way to take CBD?
You’ve probably heard of CBD and the many benefits it can offer. However, one of the biggest problems people run into when they first start integrating CBD into their routine is figuring out dosage for optimal results. We’re going to go through a few of the most popular CBD products to give some tips and tricks on finding the right dosage for you to have the best experience.
How much CBD should I take?
It can be difficult figuring out the right dosage of CBD for you. Currently, CBD is unregulated by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and therefore there are no official recommendations on dosages. However, several studies have been conducted to test CBD dosage in humans and various animals. In a 2017 study, it was determined that there’s no one universal dosage for CBD. Different people responded to different dosages giving a safe range of dosage between 20 to 1,500mg per day. We know, that’s quite the range!
As CBD continues to become more prevalent and as the industry continues to grow, we will see more and more studies that will help us gain new insights on optimal dosage for maximum effect.
What is the best way to use different CBD products?
CBD Oil most often comes in a dropper bottle. Most bottles should indicate the dosage of CBD included in one dropper full of oil. However, some products may only include the total amount of CBD content included in an entire bottle or in a single drop. It is important to read the bottle to ensure proper dosage. A good starting point is 15mg of oil taken sublingually (under the tongue) or consumed with other food products.
The great part about CBD in capsule form is that there is a set dosage of CBD in each capsule. This can take away the guesswork that some can find a little bit daunting with the oil dropper. However, it is important to note that capsules offer less flexibility on dosage. If a capsule contains 25mg of CBD, the only option is to increase, not decrease, your dosage. And to increase your dosage, you’ll have to take another pill and increase the dosage to 50mg. However, another option for incremental increases is to take a capsule and then slowly take CBD oil, via tincture, until you find the dosage that works for you.
CBD Sports Cream
Using a sports cream that includes CBD is an excellent option for those living an active lifestyle. Achy joints and muscles can find relief not only through the immediate effects of menthol and camphor, but the CBD oil also adds an extra level of relief that will kick in about 15-20 minutes after application. Most sports cream bottles include anywhere from 300-500mg of CBD depending on the size of the bottle. This can be applied at your discretion as often as needed directly to areas affected.
CBD Salve is most commonly CBD oil mixed with beeswax and various essential oils. Salve can be applied to skin and is perfect for those looking for CBD oil that can be applied topically. As with sports cream, salve can be applied at your discretion. Most containers of salve include around 500mg of CBD oil. Salve can be applied anywhere on the skin but popular locations include the bottoms of feet, wrists, or even directly to the forehead in instances such as a headache. It also works wonderfully on scrapes, burns, achy joints caused by things such as arthritis, etc.
What if it’s not working?
Figuring out the right amount of CBD can be tough. There are several factors that affect how your body reacts. Finding the right dosage for you may take a bit of trial and error. For example, if you are heavily involved in athletics and consistently put your body under large amounts of stress, you may want to test taking more than the recommended dosage to make up for what your body is undergoing.
As an overarching general rule: Pay attention to how your body responds to the recommended dosage. Depending on why you’re taking CBD, you may find that you need more or less of this dosage. For example, you may normally take the recommended dosage after each workout once each day; however, after the few particularly grind-session workouts you have each week, you may find that you need this recommended dosage twice on those days. Can I overdose on CBD?
According to a 2011 study, humans tolerate a high dosage of CBD well. Test subjects took up to 1,500mg a day with no statistically significant reports of adverse side effects. Currently, there are very few known side effects to CBD. However, with pending FDA regulation, there are several studies in the pipeline examining potential side effects.
As important as finding the correct dosage of CBD for you is finding a quality CBD product. With CBD currently being unregulated by the FDA, the task falls on the consumer to research and find reputable vendors for their CBD needs.
