Welcome to CBD Oil 101! We believe that CBD oil can change your life no matter who you are, where you come from, or the lifestyle you live. However, we understand that there is a lot of confusion and misconceptions surrounding CBD. The more you understand about CBD, the more easily you’ll be able to take your health and happiness into your own hands. With that, we’ve put together this handy guide to get you started on your journey to discover CBD and what it can do for you.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the many natural compounds found in the cannabis plant. Initial research is promising of the amazing abilities and health benefits of CBD and its effect on both mind and body.

How can CBD help me?

While research is still in its infancy, CBD has been known to have a long list of medicinal benefits including:

  • Alleviating anxiety
  • Relieving pain
  • Calming migraines
  • Anti-inflammatory properties
  • Helping with insomnia
  • Easing depression
  • Decreasing seizures

CBD is similar to certain chemicals found in your body called endocannabinoids. These chemicals affect neurotransmitters in your brain which, in turn, impact important body functions like your immune system, stress levels, and sleep cycles.

What’s the biggest misconception about CBD oil?

Many people mistakenly think that using CBD oil is the same as smoking marijuana. The truth is that CBD and marijuana are completely different substances and CBD alone couldn’t get you high even if you tried. The cannabis compound responsible for the high that many weed smokers cherish is actually called THC. Both THC and CBD are found in the cannabis plant. However, CBD oil can be extracted so you can get the health benefits of CBD without the high of THC.

Is CBD oil addictive?

The answer is it depends! It depends on which type of cannabis plant the CBD is extracted from. You might be thinking, “There’s more than one?!” Believe it or not, there are two types of cannabis plants: hemp and marijuana. CBD that comes from hemp contains little to no THC, so it’s not addictive. CBD from marijuana, on the other hand, can have slightly higher levels of THC which means it can be addictive.

The good news is that you would have to take daily doses of a CBD oil with higher levels of THC to begin to experience any withdrawal symptoms. To avoid this altogether, you can buy CBD that doesn’t have any THC at all.

Is CBD oil legal?

Hemp-derived CBD oil is legal on the federal level but is still illegal under some state laws.

Marijuana-derived CBD oil is just the opposite. It’s illegal on the federal level but legal under some state laws.

Before you try to buy products with CBD, make sure you do your homework and get information about your state’s laws. We recommend going to NORML’s website (https://norml.org/laws/california-penalties/) and clicking on your state for a detailed breakdown of marijuana laws and penalties.
